Best Places to Travel in New York
April 20th, 2009New York is one of the cities in the world with so many attractions and landmarks. Once you are in New York the question is not where will I go? But rather where will I start? There are several sights in New York that are a must see to every visitor. If you visit New York and you fail to go to these sights then you had better not gone to New York in the first place. These sites that are the most attraction sites are:
Times Square
Times Square is located at 43rd street and Broadway. This building was erected by the New York Times on 43rd Street towards the end of the 20th century. By the 1920s this site attracted more tourist as it was now home to vaudeville, cabaret and theater which moved to the street nearby. In 1929 there was a decline of theatre attendance and most theatres were now transformed into grinder houses that screened pornographic materials. But in the early 1980s, New York City made several adjustments to its neighborhood in trying to bring back the lost glory. Ever since these changes were made the site as now becomes the most famous New Year’s Eve countdown in the whole world.
Empire State Building
The famous Empire State Building is New York’s landmark and National Historic Landmark which is located a quarter of a mile from the Manhattan. It is located on the 86th floor, which is 1,050 feet above the city’s big streets. This building offers a variety of activities to people who visit. The observatory provides one of the breathtaking views of Manhattan and even beyond. Empire State Building is definitely the symbol of New York. You can as well visit the building any time you want be it day time or during the night.
Central Park
It is located to the north of 59th Street and to the south of 110th street. It is to the east of 5th Avenue and to the west of 8th Avenue. Some of the park’s attractions and landmarks are; Charles A. Discovery centre, Lasker Rink and pool, North Meadow and Recreation Centre, Central park Tennis Centre, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Belvedere Castle and several others.
Grand Central Station
This is one of the famous New York City landmarks. It took about 10 years to be constructed and it was opened on 1913. There was a possible demolition due to its increased deterioration but it was later saved in the 1960s. In 1990s the terminal was renovated and it is now the centre of attraction in New York.
Statute of Liberty
This is New York sign of freedom situated in the harbor. This statute is located on a 12 acre island and it is seen as a gift to the people of America from the people of France and it is a symbol of freedom and democracy. It was dedicated in October 1886 and was declared a national monument in 1924.
